Iraq, located in the Middle East, is officially known as the Republic of Iraq. Petroleum is the cornerstone of the economy of Iraq. Oil is the main export of Iraq. It is among world's one of the 3 most oil rich nations and, hence, it is capable of being completely energy-independent. Other than producing and refining petroleum, the country has a small industrial sector which includes: textiles, leather goods, construction materials, food processing and the production of chemicals and metals. Iraq is one of the largest producers of dates in the world. Its main crops include: wheat, barley, rice, vegetables and cotton. |
